“San Clemente, Best Climate in the World”
Ole Hanson, San Clemente Founder
"I vision a place where people can live together more pleasantly than any other place in America...the whole picture is very clear before me...I can see hundreds of white-walled homes bonneted with red tile, with trees, shrubs, hedges of hibiscus, palms and geraniums lining the drives, and a profusion of flowers framing the patios and gardens... I want plazas, playgrounds, schools, clubs, swimming pools, a golf course, a fishing pier and a beach enlivened by people getting a healthy joy out of their life."
The city of San Clemente was founded in 1925 by real estate developer and visionary Ole Hanson. Coastal San Clemente, "Spanish Village by the Sea", was among the first planned communities developed from open land in the nation.

Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens
In 1927, Hanson built the Casa Romantica, an expression of his vision of the California Lifestyle Dream. Overlooking San Clemente Pier, the now-renovated 2.4-acre site is and features historic exhibitions, literary symposia, musical attractions, special events, and diverse educational and cultural opportunities that encourage visitors to explore the romance and reality of the Southern California experience.
President Nixon’s Western White House
The seven-bedroom, seven-bath house was designed by Carl Lindbom, who also designed La Casa Pacifica.
Sitting above one of the West Coast's major surfing spots, Trestles, La Casa Pacifica Estate is the former home of President Richard Nixon and was used while working away from the official presidential residence, the White House.
San Onofre, Trestles, Beaches and Surfing USA
With miles of beautiful beaches and seemingly endless stretches of sand, San Clementeans embrace the beach culture in their attitudes and lifestyles. We have ‘surf moms’ not ‘soccer moms’. With premier surf breaks including Trestles, T-Street and San Onofre, San Clemente is a world-famous surfing destination. San Clemente is also the surfing media capital of the world. It is home to Surfing Magazine, The Surfer's Journal, and Longboard Magazine.
